CDs, Video and Cassette Tapes

OPTIONS:

CDs, DVDs and old videotapes are not considered hazardous waste. However, all of the aforementioned items can be taken to Household Hazardous Waste Collection Centers (more info listed at #4). Please note, some playback systems may be considered e-waste.

Consider the following options:

  1. Donate your old CDs and DVDs to a secondhand store such as Goodwill or the Salvation Army, or a local library for reuse. Visit Earth911 for locations near you.
  2. Reuse CDs, DVDs and videotapes for a DIY art project
  3. Mail your CDs to a media company such as CD Recycling Center of America
  4. Take CDs, videotapes, DVDs and e-waste to OC Household Hazardous Waste Collection Centers
